Every morning, while I dry my hair, Annie Bea stands next to me twisting and turning in the full length mirror. She’s weighing the pros and cons of her outfit for school. Today she was wearing a romper. To be honest, I have no idea where she got this romper but it’s insanely adorable.
I turned the hair dryer off and caught her talking to herself.
Annie Bea (mumbling): Wow, I look so elegant in this romper.
Me: Yes, you do look elegant in your romper. And how about this… Mommy is wearing a romper today, too. What do you think?
I do a little spin and show off my all black, super-loose, cotton, clearance, Gap romper.
Annie Bea: Oh, yeah! And mine looks elegant and yours looks like pajamas!
Then we gathered our things (and by WE, I mean ME) and head out for the car.
Today was Annie Bea’s turn to bring in the class snack so I was carrying 16 bananas and 2 boxes of graham crackers along with my gigantic mom-bag, Annie’s lunch box and my laptop. Oh, and it was really, really windy outside.
I was trying to unlock the car and open the door for Annie without dropping everything when I heard this slow, casual sigh of bliss.
Annie Bea: Ahhh. This breeze is sooo relaxing.
Me: Yeah??? I bet it is. Look at you, so elegant in your little romper. And so relaxed with no bags to carry or bills to pay or class mom emails to write or deadlines to meet or dishes to wash or mail to open or ANYTHING AT ALL IN THE ENTIRE WORLD TO DO EVER!
Of course, I didn’t say a word.
